Most boaters on Lake Martin know that this not allowed so there has to be a reason for so much of this to be happening. Many say this is ignorance, totally unaware of the law or not aware the lights are on. Others say it is arrogance and not caring. One thing we are seeing more of particularly this year is the proliferation of rentals—both houses and boats—which could be one of the answers. Renters are not receiving adequate instructions either on the boating laws or boating operations. If you are a renter or know someone who is, ask them!!!

Experienced boaters know proper lighting doesn’t necessarily mean bright lighting. Docking lights are bright enough to blind operators of other boats.
